Terms of Service
Last updated 10 October 2026
Draft. This page isn’t final and isn’t in effect yet. Some details are still to be filled in.
The basics
These terms are an agreement between you and [legal entity name] (“Haste”, “we”) for using the Haste app and website. By creating an account you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.
- Age. You must be at least 13, or older if your country requires it. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account, and remove accounts that belong to anyone under 13. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian should review these terms with you.
- Your account. Give accurate details, keep your login secure, and don’t share your account. You’re responsible for what happens on it. One person, one account.
- Usernames. We may reclaim a username that impersonates someone, infringes a trademark, or has been inactive for a long time.
Community rules
Haste is for readers. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users, and we remove content and accounts that break these rules. Don’t post or send anything that:
- harasses, bullies, threatens or targets someone, or encourages others to
- is hateful toward people based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or similar traits
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises anyone under 18 in any way
- promotes violence, self-harm, terrorism or illegal activity
- shares someone’s private information without permission
- impersonates a person, author or organisation, or falsely claims a badge
- is spam, scams, fake reviews, or automated or bulk activity
- infringes copyright, including posting large extracts of books
Reporting and blocking. You can report any profile, session, post, comment, review or club from its ••• menu, and block anyone so that neither of you can see or interact with the other. We review reports within [24 hours] and act on content that breaks these rules. You can also email [support@makehaste.app].
Your content
You own what you post: your reviews, reflections, photos and comments.
To run Haste, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display, copy and adapt your content (for example, resizing photos) so we can show it to the people your privacy settings allow. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies others have already shared within Haste, or backups kept for a short time.
You confirm you have the right to post what you share. Don’t upload photos of people who haven’t agreed to it. We may remove any content that breaks these terms, but we don’t review everything before it’s posted.
Badges
Badges (Founder, Verified) are given at our discretion. A badge has no cash value and can’t be transferred or sold. We may remove a badge if the account breaks these terms.
Other services and book data
- Imports. If you connect Goodreads or Hardcover, you confirm you’re allowed to access that account. Their own terms apply to them, and we’re not responsible if their service changes or stops working.
- Book information. Titles, authors and covers come from book databases such as Hardcover, and from readers who add books themselves, and may contain errors. Covers and titles belong to their publishers and authors.
- Links. We’re not responsible for other websites or apps you reach from Haste.
Copyright complaints
If you own the copyright in something shown on Haste, such as a book cover, a photo or a passage of text, and want it removed, email [support@makehaste.app] with:
- what the work is, and that you own the copyright or act for the owner
- where it appears on Haste: a link, or the book, username or screen
- your name and how to reach you
- a statement that what you’ve told us is accurate, and that you believe the use isn’t authorised by the owner or the law
We remove or replace material that infringes copyright promptly, and tell the person who posted it where that’s practical. If something of yours was removed and you think that was a mistake, reply to tell us why and we’ll look again. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly post material they have no right to share.
This is also where to send a notice under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Suspension and leaving
You can stop using Haste and delete your account at any time from Settings.
We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts others at risk, or exposes Haste to legal liability. Where it’s safe and practical we’ll tell you why, and you can appeal by emailing [support@makehaste.app]. Serious cases, such as threats or content sexualising minors, are removed at once and may be reported to the police.
We may change or stop parts of Haste. If we shut Haste down, we’ll give you at least [30] days’ notice and a way to export your reading data.
Our responsibility
Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or similar laws in your country that can’t be excluded. If we fail to meet a consumer guarantee, you’re entitled to the remedies the law provides.
Apart from those rights:
- Haste is provided “as is”. We work hard to keep it running and your data safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free.
- We’re not responsible for what other users post or do, though we act on reports.
- To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost data or lost profits, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the last 12 months or AUD $[100].
Apple, law and contact
If you use Haste on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch:
- These terms are between you and Haste, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for Haste or its content, and has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for it.
- If Haste fails to meet any applicable warranty, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Haste, not Apple, is responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, consumer protection claims, and claims that the app infringes someone’s intellectual property.
- You confirm you’re not in a country under a US government embargo and aren’t on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of [New South Wales], Australia. If you’re a consumer in another country, you keep the protections of your local law.
Changes. We’ll update the date at the top when these terms change, and tell you in the app before significant changes take effect. If you keep using Haste after that, you accept the new terms.
